Wrapping up Summer
As the summer sun begins to set and we transition into the autumn, we at JCEO are grateful looking back over the season, and excited looking forward at what’s to come in the final months of 2024.
New! Agriculture and Artistry Fair and Fundraiser
To kick off the fall season, we are thrilled to host our first-ever Agriculture and Artistry Fair in partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension! This family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, September 21st, from 10:00am till 3:00pm. There will be a variety of activities for all ages, including face painting, local craft and produce vendors, and fun special guests like Pipsqueak the Clown, Tony2Toes the Sloth, and ADK Raptors. There will be delicious treats from local food trucks, and a raffle with exciting prizes, all in support of our Food Services Program. Learn more at the event page or on Facebook!
Card and Collectible Show Returns
It’s back! Plattsburgh Card and Collectible is hosting their next show on Saturday, October 19th at the Champlain Centre Mall. Whether you’re into sports cards, Pokémon, Magic the Gathering, comic books, vintage video games, or more, these shows always have something for everyone. With more than 65 vendor tables, a coloring contest, cosplay, and a huge raffle supporting the JCEO Backpack Program, it’s the perfect event to enjoy your hobbies while helping local children in need. Learn more at the event page or on Facebook!
Summer Wins
We’re thrilled to share the success of our 17th annual Charity Golf Tournament, which raised more than $10,000! These funds directly support the Backpack and Fostering Komfort programs, which provide food and support to local children in need. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and made this event happen. Check out pictures from the event here.
In other exciting news, thanks to a generous partnership with Hydro-Québec we’re installing a new greenhouse at St. Joseph’s Outreach Center in Plattsburgh. Tailored after the success of our greenhouses at Food Services in Malone, this greenhouse will give us the opportunity to grow even more of our own fresh produce for the food pantries. Stay tuned, more on this project is coming soon!
Head Start, Back-to-School, and the Holidays
The end of summer and return to school can be bittersweet for some, but at JCEO it’s mostly sweet. We’re excited to be welcoming children back (or for the first time) to Head Start, with lots of fun opportunities and activities planned for the school year. And with community drives and donations, we were well equipped to get back-to-school supplies to children who need them. Everyone deserves to start the school year with the tools they need to succeed!
While the leaves haven’t turned quite yet, the holiday season is fast approaching, and we know that many families in our community will need extra support. Whether it’s putting food on the table, providing holiday gifts to their children, or keeping the heat on during winter months, JCEO will be there to help.
How You Can Help
There are so many ways to get involved and support JCEO’s mission. Attend one of our upcoming events, make a donation, or volunteer - all of these ways help us help local families in meaningful ways.
